Social Media Day Detroit 2013

Happy Holiday, my fellow tech savvy friends! It's Social Media Day!

Us social media obsessed people are happy to celebrate the fourth annual Social Media Day, originated by Mashable! Social Media Day was launched in 2010 as a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes. To celebrate social media enthusiasts across the country attend (or host) a Social Media Day Meetup (for a full list of local meetups, click here).

In Detroit, the place to be on Social Media Day is MotorCity Casino for their annual bash, where I have been partaking in the festivities in 2011 and 2012.  In previous years, I broadcasted live with my co-host Joe Carioti on Social Media Meltdown however this year we've decided to actually enjoy ourselves and mingle with the other attendees.

Here's what Detroit has going on tonight:

Event Panel with Twitter, Google and Mashable
We sat back and thought: "what would be a kick ass add-on for all the Social Media Personalities out there?"  How about a panel with 3 of the biggest names in Social moderated by MLIVE?  Confirmed speakers:
Twitter's Greg Myrick
Google's Zafar Razzacki
Mashable's Neha Shah

Moderator: MLive's Jen Eyer

Hosts
Livio (@livioradio) and MotorCity Casino Hotel (@motorcitycasino) will once again be your hosts for the event! (Hashtags #SMDay #Det)

Social Media Day Detroit 2012: The Interviews

This past Saturday, June 30, I attended Social Media Day Detroit at MotorCity Casino in Detroit with the rest of the Social Media Meltdown cast and crew. Alongside other fellow enthusiasts in Detroit, everyone came together to celebrate the re-birth of the city: the start-ups, the entrepreneurial spirit, the fascination with The D, and the social media that ties all these things together.

To showcase the great minds and companies in Detroit, we did a series of interviews for Social Media Meltdown with some awesome people in the industry. These interviews streamed live online during the event but in case you missed them, we've posted them here!

Below you will find the Social Media Day Detroit 2012 YouTube playlist featuring interviews with:
  • John Policicchio, Director of Interactive Marketing at MotorCity Casino (video)
  • Mikel and Heather, hosts of Most People are DJs (video)
  • Mike McClure, President of Social Media Club Detroit  (video)
  • Jag, Channel 955 DJ  (video)
  • Jake Duhaime, Social Media Manager for the Detroit Red Wings  (video)
  • Jordan Fylonenko, Public Relations team at Quicken Loans  (video)
  • Annette Janik, Yelp Community Manager for Metro Detroit  (video)
  • Chuck Dorantes of ExactTarget  (video)

Social media is a huge force bringing in more business, building bigger and better communities, spreading positive messages throughout Detroit and beyond, and building collaborative networks in and around Detroit. Social Media Day Detroit was in its third year running this year and it was bigger and cooler than ever.

Hopefully we can see more gatherings of people like these -- the true movers and shakers of Detroit.

Last year I attended the event with GNG and did a short live show. This year I will be attending #SMDayDet with Joe (@speedyf40) on June 30th to do some kind of live Social Media Meltdown broadcast show from the event. This broadcast will be better than anything we've ever done in the past. That's our promise to you! We're working on narrowing down content for the show and we would love your input. What would you like to see us talk about? Who would you like to see us talk to? We have a couple hours of content to fill up so throw your most outlandish ideas at us and we'll try to make it happen!

Stay tuned for more details as the event gets closer!

If you're attending and are interested in being part of the show, please contact me via a comment, Facebook, Twitter, or by email!

Sitting down with Kirk Maltby

Yesterday I had the opportunity, with a few other Detroit bloggers, to sit down and interview Kirk Maltby, Red Wing alumni, at the Official Red Wings Viewing Party at MotorCity Casino.

Maltby talks about how retirement life is treating him and his family as well as how he feels about the currently injured Wings team and what it's like to watch the games at home.  He also shares with us a lot of his favorite memories being with the Red Wings.

I could say more but I'll let Kirk tell you the rest...

Kirk Maltby Interview (teaser)

I'm in the process of editing all the footage I got at tonight's Official Red Wing Viewing Party at MotorCity Casino... especially the interview of Kirk Maltby.

In the meantime, enjoy this!

Talking with Kirk Maltby at the Red Wings Viewing Party at MotorCity Casino

During the game I was able to sit hang out and talk with Kirk Maltby before our interview.  We talked about social media and blogging and everyone kind of just gave him and overview of what we're doing up here in the Social Media Command Center at the DRWparty.

Telling Maltby about vlogging and showing him my new Sony Bloggie camera.

Official Red Wing Viewing Parties at MotorCity Casino

I have been invited by the MotorCity Casino social media and marketing department to come down to their Official Red Wing Viewing Party tonight and get my vlog on.  They're hooking me up, along with a few other bloggers, with access to a private box where we can have access to our computers, internet and chargers.  We also get to interview Kirk Maltby, a Red Wing alumni.

I'm really excited!  I can't wait to share my footage!
