Social Media Day Detroit 2012

Social Media Day, an nationwide event on June 30th launched in 2010 by Mashable as a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes, is returning to the Motor City this year!
Social media enthusiasts from the metro area will converge on Detroit's own MotorCity Casino and Hotel SoundBoard venue. We're celebrating the re-birth of the city: the start ups, the entrepreneurial spirit, the fascination with Detroit, and the social media that ties all of these things together. Social media is a huge force bringing in more business, building bigger and better communities, spreading positive messages through the city and beyond, and building collaborative networks in and around the D.
Live in or around the city of Detroit and interested in attending? Pick up your free tickets here.
To find a Social Media Day event near you, click here.
Last year I attended the event with GNG and did a short live show. This year I will be attending #SMDayDet with Joe (@speedyf40) on June 30th to do some kind of live Social Media Meltdown broadcast show from the event. This broadcast will be better than anything we've ever done in the past. That's our promise to you! We're working on narrowing down content for the show and we would love your input. What would you like to see us talk about? Who would you like to see us talk to? We have a couple hours of content to fill up so throw your most outlandish ideas at us and we'll try to make it happen!

Stay tuned for more details as the event gets closer!

If you're attending and are interested in being part of the show, please contact me via a comment, Facebook, Twitter, or by email!

Handmade iPad Accessories

As we all know, I love my iPad and take it everywhere with me. I also like shopping for accessories for my iPad! Lately I have realized that there is something beautiful about a handmade item paired with a flawless industrial object, like an iPad.
Check out my post over at ThoughtPizza.com that highlights my favorites.

iPad Camera Connection Kit

I just ordered Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit to use with my new Sony NEX camera that I absolutely LOVE!
The summer season is beginning and I have two trips planned, possibly three, for the next couple months. As much as I love taking pictures with my Sony NEX, I love posting my pictures in real time even more so I often opt for using my iPhone instead so I can easily upload to Instagram or Facebook.

However, I always have my iPad with me so I thought I'd give the Camera Connection Kit a shot as a better compromise.
I should receive it in the mail in a few days and shortly after that I will be going on a weekend getaway to my friend's family lake house with about 15 other close friends. This will be the perfect opportunity to test the lil guy!

Stay tuned for a review!

Social Media Meltdown #10: Geotagging

Things got a little interesting on this week's episode of Social Media Meltdown when Joe decided to stalk me via geolocation. He claims it was just trying to do a show with us in the same room but I'm not buying it! However this did bring up a very prevalent topic in the world of social media: geotagging. More and more social networks are turning to geotagging and it has been said that geolocation services is the technology to watch in 2012.

This show is brought to you by JustCoolEnough.com!

So the big question is, is this fad safe? We want to know: Do you geotag your posts? When and where are the places you won't geotag? Do you ever worry about someone stalking you by harvesting your geolocation tags?

Microsoft's So.cl: Is it a social network?

**My post featured on ThoughtPizza.com:

Microsoft recently hopped on the social networking bandwagon and unveiled a new online project called So.cl (pronounced "social") which they define as:
"...an experimental research project, developed by Microsoft’s FUSE Labs, that lets you use search to express and share ideas through beautiful story collages. So.cl is for anyone who has something to say - richly, simply, elegantly. So.cl helps you create rich stories (posts) by making it easy to assemble and share collages of web content. So.cl helps you discover people with like interests, and discover interests shared by people you like."
As much as Microsoft beats around the bush about So.cl, calling it an "experimental research project," it is still a networking site created for socializing.

Some of the key features So.cl boasts about are:
