Google Reader is Out, Feedly is In

As of July 1, one of Google's most popular applications will be gone for good: Reader.

Google Reader allowed users to scan their favorite RSS feeds in one central location. Some believe this marks the end of the RSS era. But most are just citing that privacy concerns were the major contributing factor to Reader's demise.

With Reader out of the picture, it has been a race to build the next best news aggregator for the internet. There are many contestants, including a rumor application by Digg, but one seems to be taking the internet by storm--Feedly.

After Reader's eminent death was announced, Feedly added 50,000 new users in a mere 48 hours!

Feedly promises to make the migration from Google Reader as seamless as possible and from my own personal experience, it does just that! Just log into Feedly using your Google information and BAM everything is just sitting there waiting for you.

And if Feedly wasn't awesome enough, over the last few days they've added 10 more unique features that puts them even more ahead of the competition. Feedly has stated in their blog that they are committed to continuing to offer their existing and new members the best service possible by continually releasing new features... so far so good.

The biggest difference I noticed while browsing around my Feedly was that it is much more visually stimulating than Reader. This may not sound like a big deal but considering visuals are all the rage in social media right now, having a beautiful site to showcase them on is key. It's like Pinterest, for RSS.

Right now Feedly is available through your web browsers, iOS, Android, and Kindle (and there are rumors of a Windows app soon).

What do you think? Why is Google taking away Reader? Have you tried Feedly? Does it fill the gap? Is there something better out there?
